El Terreno is a small residential and tourist area which belongs to the “Ponent” district, the western part of the city of Palma.
The original El Terreno emerged as a summer area for Palma’s bourgeoisie at the end of the 19th century- beginning of the 20th century. This area is favoured for the fact its land slopes towards the sea, providing beautiful views of the sea from the houses, as well as the surroundings: the sea on one side and Bellver Forest on the other.
At the end of the 19th century, the Gomila family build a holiday home there. The Gomilas decided to give a space belonging to their plot to the Town hall. This gift enabled them to build a “Bornet” for adults to enjoy. This new space was known as “Sa Placeta”, which is today’s Plaza Gomila, where you can find Joe’s Gomila Boutique Hotel.
